Sarah’s Salad, and, the Rule of Three.

Not everyone knows how to make a good salad.  Sarah does.

And, now, she knows how to make a good stir fry*.  The Rule of Three.  Yes, it’s that simple.  I don’t care what else you do… you might like some chilli, ginger, garlic, a small quantity of finely chopped shallot… you might like fresh herbs added, finely chopped, at the last moment, you might like other spices.  Do what you like in that department.  If you like it hot, make it hot.  Do what you like with the seasoning…and I don’t mind if you use chicken, fish, beef, lamb… that’s up to you.  I don’t mind what delicious fresh vegetables you use; mushrooms**, bok choy, carrot, celery, green beans, purple cabbage, snow peas, capsicum, bean shoots, spring onion, cauliflower, broccolli, fennel pieces.

You can put nuts in it if you want to.  Cashews, almonds.  I don’t care.

However, there is one thing I do mind.  And that’s the rule of three.  No sneaky trying to get around the rule of three.  There are NO exceptions.  Well, that’s not quite true.  If you are vegetarian, you may have 4 ingredients.  Otherwise, whatever meat or fish you have chosen to celebrate with vegetable (and nut) ingredients…. you have THREE, that’s One, Two, Three.  And NO MORE.

So… choose wisely.

You might like chicken, celery, green bean and cashew.  (I do.)  You might like beef, red capsicum, broccoli and onion.   As you wish.  Just don’t muck about with the rule of three.  I’m watching you.

* Obviously you won’t be using any oil or fat that hasn’t been rigorously tested for centuries by a traditional culinary culture, now will you?  What? You don’t know what I’m talking about?  Oh dear.   I shall have to remedy that, soon.

Do not use “vegetable oil” from the supermarket, or any oil that requires an industrial process recently invented and fossil fuel dependent.  These are not food.

* Mushroom is a culinary vegetable.  Does this blog look like a pedantic botanist’s blog?  No.  I will be making a pedantic botanist’s blog later.  But for now, at Elsie Hogfat’s, mushrooms are a vegetable.
